This is "Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania". Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania arrives in time for the Super Monkey Ball series' 20th anniversary, and you can get a peek at its action in the trailer below. UPDATE 15/6/21, 5.21PM: Following yesterday's leaky peeks, Sega has confirmed that Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is indeed a thing and will be coming to Switch, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam on 5th October this year.īut what is Banana Mania? Well, as keen-eyed fans had deduced, it's a remaster of 2005's Super Monkey Ball Deluxe - which combines the original Super Monkey Ball, its sequel, and some new content not seen in either of those games. So there you go - potentially two fun little additions to a game that's already got Monkey Ball fans excited. Conspicuously though, the site layout leaves enough room for two more characters - and manually altering the image paths so portrait and in-ball art ends in sonic.png or tails.png reveals hidden Sonic and Tails versions of both: You can see for yourself! Scroll down to the Characters section and you'll find six boxes, each showcasing one of Monkey Ball's familiar playable roster. One enterprising internet sleuth (as spotted by Sonic fan site Sonic Stadium) has gone a-poking around Sega's newly launched Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania website and - presumably through a combination of curiosity, cunning, and guesswork - uncovered currently hidden art for a potentially playable Sonic and Tails. The announcement is perfectly timed with the 20th anniversary of the series, the first of which was released on GameCube in 2001.ĭeveloped by Amusement Vision and published by Sega, the game was very successful and spawned a sequel and eventually turned into a franchise with 16 sequels or spin-offs released to date.UPDATE 15/6/21, 11PM: In much the same way that Sonic made a surprise roly-poly appearance in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, it looks like the blue hedgehog will be making a playable return in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania - and this time with Tails in tow. ![]()
